Our Community Trip

What’s in our community? Our students learn and identify the different places in our neighborhood and understand the purpose of each.

To make the learning experience more meaningful, we took a short community trip around the Merville Supermarket Complex and visited the village grocery, the meat shop and the drugstore.

Our excited students formed a line outside the Carmelite Mini Mart before entering the grocery.

We took a photo with Tita Leila, the grocery store owner, and thanked her for welcoming us warmly.

We tried to do a wacky pose with her too.

Can we buy some ice cream now, Tita Leila?

The children enthusiastically greeted Tita Leila “Good Morning!”

“A potato!!!” The children gamely identified the produce at the vegetables section.

Onion starts with what letter? The Senior Nursery kids chimed in unison, “O!!!”

The children also happily sang a “Good Morning” song to Tita Leila.

“Let’s put the banana in our grocery basket, Teacher! Fruits make us healthy!”

The kids happily pointed out familiar items their mommies and daddies buy for their snacks in school.

The aisles were filled with giggles and laughter from the excited students.

The students also experienced paying at the cashier and waiting for the change.

“Where are we going next, Teacher?”

A short walk around the complex took us to the meat shop.

Ate Luz of Monterey Meat Shop explained to us the different things we can find at a meat shop.

IMG_4927
We can also find locally grown vegetables in the store, aside from the meat.

IMG_4928
We also met an important community helper, our neighborhood butchers, who waved to us from their workstations.

IMG_4930
The butchers are the ones who slice the meat into smaller sizes so that Mommy and Manang can cook it into delicious meals for us.

IMG_4936
The butcher also showed us the special scale he uses for the meat.

The kids happily posed with our community helpers from the meat shop.

“Whose hooves are these?!!”

IMG_4985
“I think they belong to one of the Three Little Pigs!”

The children observed the cashier as she pressed the different numbers in her cash register.

The students also saw a laundry shop in the complex.

Is this buying, Teacher?

Thank you very much to Tito Roland and Tita Leila Siquijor of Carmelite Mini Mart, Mr. Karim Yu (the daddy of our former student Spy) of Monterey Meat Shop, and Mr. Eldon Tan (the daddy of our former student) of Eldon Pharmacy for welcoming us into your stores! We truly enjoyed getting to know the different places in our community.
